Can AI replace human writers? According to Google, absolutely not.
If you’re a small business owner, you’ve likely taken special interest in AI writing tools like ChatGPT. Incorporating AI into some work can generate good content, but we’d like to share the many reasons why using AI to write entire articles is a bad idea.
Why Does Google Punish AI-Generated Content?
According to Google’s official guidelines for webmasters, the search engine may disregard AI-generated content as spam, lowering that content’s rank among search results.
While Google’s current system may not distinguish some spam from genuine content automatically, it maintains a global team that handles spam manually. In theory, no spam is tolerable, whether the manual team or the search engine discovers it. If you’re getting away with it, Google catching you is only a matter of time.
Since Google’s founding, automatic content has been a cardinal sin because its duplicative nature keeps it from being valuable to users.
Why Shouldn’t AI Writing Tools Write Whole Articles?
Google’s whims aside, AI can only stray so far from what it reads in the first place. It can’t be better than or, more importantly, distinct from the assortment of human writers that informed it.
While modern content generators might be better than rudimentary generators like Eliza, that content remains duplicative. In contrast, those with experience in SEO content writing have had plenty of practice with putting a personal spin on potentially redundant information.
We’ve presented how AI creates duplicate content. The only possibility worse than generating duplicative content is generating incorrect or poor content, which an AI tool can achieve with enough exposure to faulty or outdated information.
What Does Responsible AI Use Look Like?
As conservatively as search engines prohibit duplicative articles, using AI tools for spelling, grammar, research or brainstorming is fair game. The digital landscape will probably see more of this cooperation in the future.
Fundamentally, AI tools allow marketing teams to limit focus on menial tasks so that the humans can spend more time on genuine creation. With no boredom of their own, AI tools make great proofreaders, researchers and key phrase generators.
